  1. CHARACTERISTICS OF MOLLUSCS 1. They have soft unsegmented body. 2. Neopilina is a segmented mollusc. 3. They are bilaterally symmetrical. 4. Some mollusc are asymmetrical. 5. Most of them have internal or external shell. 6. They possess mantle — a fold in the body wall that lines the shell. 7. They are triploblastic. 8. Organ system level of body organisation. 9. They are mostly marine. 10. Body is divided into head, muscular foot and visceral hump. 11. Coelom is greatly reduced. 12. Digestive system is complete. They have open circulatory system with heart and 13. aorta. 14. 15. 16. 17. 18. 19. 20. Respiration occurs through gills called ctenidia. They have a pair of kidneys(metanephridia). Locomotion takes place by ventral muscular foot. Sexes are separate. Sexual reproduction. Fertilisation can be internal or external. They are source of food as well as jewellery.
