    In terms of physics,the term equilibrium is defined as the condition in which the vector sum of all forces acting on the body is zero. And for solving numerical problems of equilibrium we must individually equate the forces in horizontal and vertical direction to zero. In terms of chemistry,the equilibrium is the condition in which the rate of forward reaction is equal to the rate of backward reaction.

    Gravity is actually the gravitational force between the earth and the objects including humans.As gravitational force acts between the points object.So, we assume a point in the body where we assume that all the mass of the body is concentrated and that point is known as center of mass of the body.So that's why the gravity act at the center of mass of the body.

    First of all we take a balloon which weight 10 grams and filled it with helium gas and then put a little weight on it so that it is just short of going upwards.Then the wight of helium(x) plus the external weight (y) equals the weight of the balloon (10 grams).Knowing "y" you can solve for "x". By the way You can find the volume of the balloon by immersing it in water.The volume if water displaced would equal to the volume of the balloon.
