Tutoring Experience :
I believe it is key to be able to explain science in simple terms. This is a necessary skill when teaching at all levels. Less scientifically minded pupils soon find out that the work is not beyond them and those aiming for a future in science quickly grasp new principles needed for in depth study. I am both conscientious and caring and feel a sense of professional pride when my tutees are successful
In order to teach successfully it is most important for me to gain my tutees' confidence and to give them self-confidence. During my first session I establish their method of learning and their level of knowledge and build on this by praising achievement. Initially, I encourage the use of simple rules and then we go on to develop deeper thought. My focus throughtout is 'the syllabus' and the fact that all the exam questions come from it - this fact gives tutees both structure and sets goals to their learning. Together we work on exam technique, using many past papers, from not only their exam board, but from all boards, as this gives the tutees a wider exposure to possible questions.
