so the total area of cylinder will be equal to 

cylinder area = area of top and bottom parts+ area of curved surface 

the top and bottom parts are just like as a cycle so area will be 2*pi*radius^2

and the curved surface area will be 2*pi*radius*height, so total area will be 

cylinder area= 2*pi*r*h + 2(pi*r^2)
