Question: Explain Magnetic coil Galvonometer?

Answer

Magnetic coil galvanometer is used to measure small current as well as small voltage in a circuit. Why small because it adds its own resistance in the circuit which is around 100ohm in general. It is constructed using magnetic poles and coil. Due to magnetic poles ,magnetic field is generated. So its working principle involves rotation of current carrying coil in a magnetic field. Hence coil get deflected and current as well as voltage can be measured based on amount of deflection

Because potentiometer does not add its own resistance in the circuit. While galvanometer adds its own resistance in the circuit which is around 100ohm, which is quite significant. So it disturbs the original circuit. And as far as potentiometer is concerned it has its own circuit, so it does not disturbs the original circuit. By adding a small shunt resistance in parallel to galvanometer ,ammeter is formed. By adding a high resistance in series with galvanometer, voltmeter is formed.
