Question: A purse contains rupees 250 notes of denomination of 10 and 50 if the number of 10 rupees note is one more than that of 50 rupees notes find the number of notes of is denomination

Ans There are 4 50Rs. notes and 5 10 Rs. notes.

Explanation: Let, the no. of  50 Rs. notes be x.   So, no. of 10 Rs. notes = (x+1).

Thus the total amount = Rs. [50x + 10(x+1)] = Rs. (60x + 10)

By the prob, 60 x + 10 = 240

Solving, we get, x = 4 . So, x+1 = 5

Answer: It is given that Rs 10 notes are one more than the Rs 50 notes. If both the notes were equal  then the  value

of money would be Rs 250-10  = Rs 240. Now combined value of one pair of these notes would be Rs 60( 50+10).

Therefore for Rs 240/- there should be 4 such pair of notes  (4*60 =240),  that is4 notes of Rs 50 and 4 notes of Rs 10.

But we know that no.of Rs 10 notes are one more than the number of Rs 50 notes.

Hence Rs 50 notes = 4

Rs 10 notes =           5

Thus 4*50 +5*10 = Rs 250.

Number of Rs. 50 notes =4

Number of Rs. 10 notes =4+1=5

• Let the number of 10 notes = x which implies that number of 50 notes = x-1(given that 10 notes is 1 more than 50 notes)
• Total amount = 250
• 10x + 50(x-1) = 250, from here you will get x = 5
