Question: One person leaves P at 5 in the morning and arrives at Q at 11 in the afternoon Another person started his journey from place Q at 6 in the morning and reached place P at 12 noon. When did they meet?

Ans. 8.30 am

Explanation : Since, 1st person started from P 1 hr before, 5 hrs of journey is left for him.

So, both persons will go for 5/2 hrs = 2&half hrs = 2 hrs 30 mins towards each other to meet.

Thus they'll meet at (6 + 2.30) am = 8.30 am or 8hrs 30 mins.

Both will meet at 8:30am. The meeting point is 58.3% distance away from P. Or 41.6% away from Q

Let the distance between points P&Q be considered as 1 unit..

As both persons take same time of 6 hours to travel this distance their speeds are same

And each will travel in 1 hr =  1/6 of the distance.  The person at P starts 1 hr earlier

(at 5 AM)  than the other person at  Q .Therefore the person at P  would have traveled

a distance of 1/6 of the distance between P&Q by 6AM.

Therefore the distance between them when person from Q starts at 6 Am

= 5/6  of the distance between P&Q.

The person from P will take 5 hrs to cover this distance of 5/6  parts. As the person from Q also travels with the same speed towards P both the persons will meet each other midway,that is both will travel 5/2 =  2 ½ hours to meet each other.

Hence the person from Q will meet the person from P=  at 6AM +2 ½ hrs =  8 Hrs 30 minutes

The person from Q would have traveled a distance of (5/2)*(1/6) =  5/12 part of  distance PQ
