Ask a QuestionI am going to marry an heiress. Because "heiress" is pronounced with vowel sound. So we have to use article "an" before "heiress."
the proposal was accepted by a unanimous vote.
1) I am going to marry an heiress. (initial vowel sound of the word - 'heiress')
2) The report was accepted by a unanimous vote. (No error, it should not be 'an unanimous' as the initial sound of the word 'unanimous' sounds like 'yunanimous', a consonant sound, so ' a unanimous' is correct. Other likewise examples are - a unicorn, a university etc.)
1)I AM GOING TO MARRY AN HEIRESS(PRONOUNCED ˈɛːrəs,ɛːˈrɛs/)
2)THE REPORT WAS ACCEPTED BY AN UNANIMOUS VOTE.
THE REASON AN IS USED INSTEAD OF A BECAUSE IF THE WORD FOLLOWING THE ARTICLE IS A VOWEL(SENTENCE 2) OR SOUNDS LIKE A VOWEL(SENTENCE 1),THEN THE APPROPRIATE ARTICLE IS AN
1) I am going to marry an heiress.
2) The report was accepted by the unanimous vote.
