It is due to the dispersion of light when light enters in prim it split into seven colours according to velocity and frequency and vibgyor is the pattern

White light is made up of all 7 colours that we know and when it passes thru prism all the constituent ligjt rays of different colour get REFRACTED (it's a name of the phenomenon) and this happens due to different speed of each light ray. Hope it helps you understand the concept
A beam of white light light which is mixture of all wavelengths has more speed in rare medium than denser medium. When a beam of white light inter through rare-denser interface (VIBGYOR) different types of wavelengths change its path (refraction) takes place. Hence a beautiful bands of spectral lines are obtained. The phenomenon is termed as dispersion of white light.....
Due to dispersion of light this phenomenon happens. White Light is a group of wavelengths, when it enters through a prism due to dispersive nature of prism light spilits into different colours. Hence colours are formed.

This is because of refraction of light. Different colours bend in different angles and hence white light splits into different colours. This phenomenon is called dispersion of light

When the light passes through the first prism of the glass it split the light into seven colours and when this ray of light enter the second prism of the glass Which is placed upside down White light comes out of it.

As μ is different for different wavelengths, r is different too, and hence each wavelength is deviated by a different amount. This leads to the splitting of colours in white light.  finaly VIBGYOR colour pattern apper.

White light is composed of 7 different colurs and when it enters a glass prism it splits into those seven constituents by the phenomenon called 'dispersion'. This is due to the fact, these seven colours having different wavelengths scatter differently by refraction. Red (R) has longest wavelength and bends to the top by least refraction, while violet (V) has shortest wavelength and refracts the most right to the bottom thus forming the colour spectrum VIBGYOR in the bottom-to-top order.

White light is composed of all the visible colors in electromagnetic spectrum.So in order to prove this we take help of this prism experiment.As white light passes through the prism, all its constituent are refracted by different amount by the faces of prism.This happens because each of the component is having different wavelength.Violet has the highest frequency and is refracted most.Red has the lowest frequency and is refracted the least.Because each color is refracted differently so each bends at different angle.This results in fanning out and separation of white light into the colors of spectrum.
