Biogas is a type of biofuel naturally produced from the decomposition of organic matter, like food scraps and animal waste, in the absence of oxygen. It is a renewable source of energy comprising of mostly Methane (about 75%) and carbon dioxide too.
Biogas is a methane rich fuel gas (methane (50-70%), carbon dioxide (30-40%), with traces of N2 and H2S n H2) formed by the joint activity of three microbes a). Decomposer microbes ( which convert complex organic matter into simpler ones by secreting some enzymes) b).Fermentive microbes ( that convert simple soluble compounds into organic acids) c). Methanogenic microbes ( which finally convert organic acids into methane and carbon dioxide.
Biogas is generated through natural process of bacterial decomposition of biomass, manure, general waste, sewage, greenwaste and energy crops. Biogas is usually made up of approx. 50-70% methane, 25-45% carbon dioxide, 0-1% hydrogen, 0-10% water vapor, 0-2% oxygen etc. Biogas can be converted into energy in form of electricity, fuel, fermentation product utilized as fertilizer. Utilized in liquid or dry form as compost or soil improver in agricultural and horticultural sectors. The fermentation product contains N, P,K and organic carbon. Biogas generator helps for the production, generator contains a large tank for the storage of organic waste.for this four stage process involve; Hydrolysis, Acidogenesis, Acetogenesis and Methanogenesis. Benefits of biogas generator;Eco- friendly use of waste, lower green house gas emits, natural fertiliser produce etc.
Biogas is a type of biofuel naturally produced from the decomposition of organic matter. When this organic matter is exposed to an environment without oxygen they free a blend of gases. As biogas production happens in the absence of oxygen, this process is also referred to as anaerobic digestion. there’s a fermentation process that breaks down organic matter, turning what once was waste into a source of energy that can be used to heat, cool, cook, or for regular electricity production, once it’s burned.
