Tea is a product which sells at a fairly low price of hardly Rs 1000 per kg. Therefor it has to be produced at a low cost to make any profit. That rules out use of costly machines to pluck tea. Plucking two leaves and a bud is a repeatitive and skilled job. Hence use of female labour is suitable for the job

Tea cultivation or industry requires high amounts of cheap and skilled labour as it is a labor-intensive crop and requires it especially during plucking of the tea leaves, which is a tedious process and requires skilled and trained fingers to pluck two leaves and a bud at a time.  Women labourers are employed in large numbers for this purpose. Over 1 million workers are employed currently in the tea industry.

Tea industry is high human labor employing industry. From planting of tea sampling to plucking of tea leaves and final packaging human labour is required . Tea leaves can't be plucked by machines. Human labour needs to be involved for plucking of tea leaves from plants Tea leaves need to be sorted at the time of plucking based on the quality assessed by tea leave picker. Machines aren't employed for tea gardens and most of the processing part is done with the help of machines but not the collection of tea leaves from fields or estates.
