value of force constant = Force/ elongation = (10/0.01) N/m  = 1000 N/m

Kinetic energy = 0.5 x 1000 x (0.005) x (0.005) = 0.0125 J

We know that

F = -k x

And Kinetic energy E = ½ X k x^2

Here F= force, k= force constant, x = elongation, E= energy

For our question,

F = 10 N, x = 10 mm = 1 cm = 0.01 m

Putting values

F = -k x

10 N = - k X 0.01 m

So k = - 10/ 0.01 X N/m

     k = - 1000 N/m

E = ½ k x^2

Putting values k = -1000 N/m, x = 5 mm = 0.005 m

    = ½ X (-1000) X (0.005)^2 X N/m X m^2

  = ½ X (1000) X (5/1000)^2 Nm

 = ½ X 25 X 1/1000 Nm

 = 12.5/1000 Nm

 = 0.0125 J                              (J, Joule is the unit of energy equals to Nm)
