What's Your Question?
Answer

Hi,

EGP : Exteriror Gateway Protocol and is presented in RFC 827(1982).

In the early 1980, the routers that made up the ARPANET ran a distance vector routing protocol known as Gateway-to-Gateway protocol (GGP). EGP is the protocol which overcame the GGP with two versions. EGPv1 and EGPv2.

EGP messages are exchanged between the EGP neighbors or peers. If neighbors are not in the same AS, then they are called as interior neighbors. If they are in different autonomous systems, then they are called as Exterior Neighbors.

EGP has no function that automatically discovers its neighbors, the addresses of the neighbors are manually configured, and the messages they exchange are UNICAST to the configured address.

Regards,

Raja.

Answer

Exterior Gateway Protocol (EGP) is a protocol for exchanging routing information between two neighbor gateway hosts (each with its own router) in a network of autonomous systems. EGP is commonly used between hosts on the Internet to exchange routing table information.
