Isotopes are the elements which have same atomic number but different in atomic mass(mass number), due to the difference in the no of nutrons,whereas proton number remains same in the nucleus. Examples:Carbon-12, Carbon-14 etc.

The elements which have same atomic numbers but different atomic masses are said isotopes of each other. e,g, Deutrium, Protium ,Tritium are isotopes of hydrogen because all are having atomic number 1.
