Democracy can be defined as the form of government chosen by the people, for the people and of the people, meaning -- the people are granted the right to choose and vote for their representatives,  through a free and fair electoral process, amongst the participating contestants representing their respective parties. The political party having won the vast majotity votes in the Parliament is said to form a government chosen by the people.

Democracy is based on the fundamental principle of political equality -- the people' s right to franchise vote has been safeguarded by each adult citizen( 18 years and above) having one vote and each vote having one value.

A demoractic government has been granted the right to exercise power within the restrictions  permitted by the Constitutional Rights and the Citizens' Rights.

The word democracy comes from the Greek words "demos" which means people, and "kratos" meaning power. So democracy can be consider as "power of the people", it is a way of governing which depends on the will of the people. Democracy is government on behalf of all the people, according to their "will".
