 Transpiration pull refers to the suction, force, or pull that draws water up through a plant. It is a biological process where the water molecules and ions are absorbed up from the roots, and then evaporation occurs within the leaves, spreading water throughout the plant.

Transpirational pull is simply a biological process which occurs in plant tissues ( specifically xylem). Xylem is to transport water from roots to other parts of the plant. As the water is lost from the leaf surface due to transpiration more water molecules are pulled up and thus it produces continuous column of water through the stem which is called transpirational pull

Transpirational pull in plants works on the mechanism of capillarity action, which works against the law of gravity. The tissues involved in this phenomenon is xylem tissues in plants which are comprised of four types of cells; of which three cells i.e. tracheids,vessels and xylem parenchyma cause the action of capillary i.e. absorption of water from soil by roots and then carrying the water to the leaves. The fourth kind of cell of xylem tissues which is xylem schlerenchyma ( also called wood fibres) is not responsible for this action and only performs the task of providing mechanical support to the plants.
