A software is the set of programs and program is the set of instructions.

a computer system composed of two part software and hardware.

hardware is the physucal part that is touchable.

software is the logical part and it is not touchable.

there can be two typres of softwares:

Sysyem softwares- these are used for system applications. without these softwares your system will not work properly. Compiler, interpreter, linker, loader are some examples of this category.

Application Softwares- these are used for some specific applications. if a particular application software is not present then you will not be able to open that particula type of application but it will not affect your system. some examples are: 

MS word, MS power point etc

There are two components of a computer Hardware and software. Hardware are those which you can touch or see and software are the programs by way of which computer understands and accepts your command and then work for you. Let me explain. You work in your computer but to write a letter you may need MS Word or to do calculations you will need MS Excel or for a presentation you will need Power Point. These all are part of a software called MS Office. Even to start your computer you need an Operating System like Windows which is also a software. The accountants use a software called Tally.
