Colectomy means the removal of colon for various medical conditions.it is of following types- 1.total-removal of colon except rectum 2.partial-removal of some portion of colon. 3.hemicolectomy-removal of right or left portion of colon. 4.proctocolectomy-removal of colon and rectum Subtotal colectomy includes partial and hemicolectomy. Indications-crohns disease,ulcerative colitis,colon carcinoma,colon bleeding,preventive surgery in patients with higher chances of cancer colon-FAP syndrome or lynch syndrome.
