Diarrhoea has been defined objectively stool weight in excess 200-250 gm per day and symptomatically as abnormal frequency an liquidity of fecal discharges. It is the passsage of unformed stools.

The causative organism in Diarrohea can be isolated in some patients, but in others no pathogenic bacteria may be discovered inspite of a careful search. viruses may be itiological agents in many instances; the viruses include Rotavirus, Enteric Adinovirus, Norwoalk and Norwalk like viruses, Calici  viruses and astro viruses. Anteric infections are more likely to occur in patients with low gastric acid output either due to gastric disease or due to therapy with antiacid drugs like Ranitidine and Omeprazole.

 

Note: Diarrohea accompanied by passage of blood and mucous is called dyssentry and suggests disease of the colon.
