  5. POVERTY ALLEVIATION Eradication of poverty in India can only be a long term goal. Poverty Alleviation is expected to make a better progress in the next 50 years than in the past, as a trickle-down effect of the growing middle class. Increasing stress on education, reservation of seats in the government jobs, and the increasing improvement of women and the economically weaker section of the society are also expected to contribute to the elevation of poverty .
  6. POVERTY ALLEVIATION PROGRAMMES Under the Directive Principles, it has been laid down that the State strives to promote the welfare of the people by securing and protecting, as effectively as it may, the social, economic, and political-shall inform all the institutions of national life.
  7. Scheme
  8. 1 : JAWAHAR GRAM SAMRIDHI YOJANA (JGSY) The programme was implemented by Gram Panchayats, and works which result in creation of durable, productive community assets are taken up. The secondary, it is the generation of wage employment for the rural unemployed pool.
  9. 2: SWARNAJYANTI GRAM SWAROZGAR YOJANA(SGSY) 0 It aims at promoting micro-enterprises and helping the rural poor into self-help-groups (SHG). This scheme covers all aspect of self employment like organisation rural poor into their capacity building , training, infrastructure development, financial assistance through credit, subsidy, and marketing support and so on.
  10. 3: EMPLOYMENT ASSURANCE SCHEME (ENS) 0 It identified, background panchayat samitis of 257 districts situated in drought prone areas, desert areas, tribal areas, and hill areas in which the revamped public distribution system was in operation.
  11. 4: SAMPOORNA GRAMEEN ROZGAR YOJANA (SGRY) The scheme aims at providing wage employment in rural areas as also food security, along with the creation of durable community, with social and economic assets.
  12. 5: NATIONAL SOCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (NSAP) There is a 10000 centrally sponsored scheme for social assistance benefits to poor households that are affected by old age, death of primary bread earner, and maternity care.
  13. 6: PRADHAN MANTRI GRAMODAYA YOJANA (PMGY) o Its objective is to focus on village level development in five critical areas, that is, Health Primary education Drinking water Housing Rural roads
  14. 7: PRADHAN MANTRI GRAM SADAK YOJANA (PMGSY) o Its objective to provide road connectivity through good, all weather roads to all rural habitations with a population of more than 1000 persons.
  15. S: PRADHAN MANTRI GRAMODAYA YOJANA (GRAMIN AWAS) 0 This scheme is implemented on the pattern of indira awas yojana with the objective of a sustainable habitat development at the village level and to meet the growing housing needs of the rural poor.
  16. 9: PRADHAN MANTRI GRAMODAYA YOJANA (RURAL DRINKING WATER PROJECT) Under this progamme a minimum 2500 of the total allocation is to be utilised by the respective states/UT on project for water conservation, water harvesting , water recharge.
  17. 10: SWARNA JAVANTI SHAHRI ROZGAR YOJANA (SJSRY) The two special scheme of SJSRY are The urban self employment programme 1. The urban wage employment programme 2.
  18. 1 1 INDIRA AWAS YOJANA(IAV) This is a major scheme for construction of houses to be given to the poor, free of cost. An additional component for conversion of unserviceable kutcha houses to semi pakka houses has also been added
  19. 12: SAMAGRA AWAS YOJANA In this, each of 25 district of 24 states and and in 1 UT, with a view to ensuring integrated provision of shelter, sanitation and drinking water.
  20. 13: FOOD-FOR-WORK PROGAMME The progrmme aims at augmenting food security through wage employment in the drought-affected rural areas in eight states that is, Gujraat Chattisgarh Himachal Pradesh Madhya Pradesh Maharashtra Orissa Rajasthan Uttaranchal
  21. 14: ANNAPURNA It aims at providing food security to meet the requirment of those senior citizen who, though eligible for pensions under the NOAPS, are not getting the same.
  22. 15: KRISHI SHRAMIK SAMAJIK SURAKSHA YOJANA The scheme was launched in July 2001 for giving social security benefits to the agricultural labourers on hire, in the age group of 18-60 years.
  23. 16: SHIKSHA SAHAYOG YOJANA The scheme has been finalised for providing an educational allowance of Rs 100 per month to the children, of parents living below the PL, for their education in classes from 9th standard to 12th standard.
