  7. DISTANCE Distance = rate X time Rate distance/time Time distance/rate APPLICATION: If a car is traveling at 30 mph and you want to figure out how far it will travel in 2 hours, you will use the formula; Rate (30 mph) X time (2 hr) distance 30 miles/hour X 2 hours 60 miles
  8. ESTIMATION When estimating, you use what you already know to make an educated guess for the measurement of another object. Lets demonstrate some activities now for how to estimate each unit of measurement.
  9. GUESS THE NUMBER We have a certain number of M&M's in the jar at the front of the class. Each person needs to take a sheet of paper write their name at the top legibly, and then write down an estimation of how many M&M's are in the jar. Pass the estimations to the end of your row and we will come collect them. At the end of class we will announce the person who was the closest and they will get to keep the M&M's.
