The Daisy 1. The little daisy grew on the fresh green bank of a ditch that was close to a little flower garden with painted wooden palings in front of it. This garden was itself a part of the farmhouse close by the highroad in the country. 2. From the sun and the surroundings, the little daisy learnt how kind God is. 3. The daisy felt itself to be rich because it could see and hear; the sun shone upon it and the forest kissed it. In other words, the daisy could experience the richness of nature's beauty and so, it felt rich herself. 4. The daisy thanked God for being close to the ground enabling it to see all the splendour the beautiful flowers in its neighbourhood and the bird flying in the air, singing sweetly. 5. The lark honoured the daisy by praising its beauty, singing to it and kissing it. 6. The daisy felt glad and grateful because it was outside the garden and too small to be noticed. These features prevented her from being noticed and cut by the little girl with a large sharp knife. 7. The bird was sad because it had been captured and put into a cage beside the open window by two little boys. 8. The bird felt that it would die because it had no water and all the family-members were away. 9. The boys were responsible for the lark's death because they had firstly curtailed its independence by putting it in a cage and thereby making it wish for death rather than live in captivity and secondly, by forgetting to give it water. 10. Putting a bird in a cage is not justified because it is born to be freely flying over the earth and we have no moral right to curtail its freedom.
