  1. PARTS OF SPEECH In English language words are divided into different kinds or classes, called Parts of speech. Each parts of speech has its own significance. There are eight Parts of speech. Noun Pronoun Verb Adjective Adverb Preposition Conjunction Interjection NOUN: A noun is a word that describes the name of a person, a thing, a place. Ex, The boy is going to school. The book is on the table. Rita sings well.
  2. PRONOUN: A pronoun is a word that is used in the place of a noun. Ex. The boy is going to school. He is seven years old. The lady is a dancer. She dances Bharatnatyam. VERB: A verb is a word that describes an action, it also indicates what a person or thing is. Ex. The earth goes round the sun. Lily is playing in the garden. The cat is under the table.
  3. ADJECTIVE: An adjective is a word that adds to the meaning of a noun. Ex. This is a red shirt. He is a good singer. Kolkata is a big city. ADVERB: An adverb is a word that adds to the meaning of a verb, an adjective or another adverb. Ex. They swim well. Mina cooks well. He runs very fast.
  4. PREPOSITON: A preposition is a word that is used before a noun or a pronoun to show the relation of the noun or pronoun concerned with other words in the sentence. Ex. The dog is the garden. There is a tree behind my house. Ravi is sitting beside Sham. CONJUNCTION: A conjunction is a word that joins two words, expressions or sentences. Ex. Sima and Raju are going to the park. You or I must go to the party. Uncle ran fats but he missed the bus.
  5. INTERJUNCTION: An interjection is a word that expresses some sudden feelings. Ex. Hurray! We have won the match. Alas! The boy has lost his money. Oh! What a wonderful place it is.
