  1. Advance Chapter No: 292 Chapter Name: Talking about your lifestyle. Audio-Video Session {with Feedbackz Examples on the current topic} Feedback: Hello everyone and welcome back to the new session. Hope you all enjoyed the last session that we have had on "Telephone Conversation". I have received a lot of likes from all of you for the last session. It was great and such appreciations keeps me motivated to bring more and more such topics for you. Today we are going to look into one such topic. Today's topic is "Talking about your lifestyle". Today we are going to talk about life style. What exactly does the word means when we say look at his/her or their life style? Introduction of Current Chapter: A lifestyle typically reflects an individual's attitudes, values or world view. Therefore, a lifestyle is a means of forging a sense of self and to create cultural symbols that resonate with personal identity. Lifestyle may include views on politics, religion, health, intimacy, and more. All of these aspects play a role in shaping someone's lifestyle. In late nineties people used to categorize the term lifestyle somewhat like this, Lifestyles based on Income or occupation Lifestyles based on social and political status Lifestyles based on royal class segments Today we see the world has completely changed and lifestyle has become somewhat a very common feature. In today's digital world every big brands focus on the middle and lower segments. Today I am going to talk some basic lifestyle that any common to middle class person can adopt. This incident took place when I was participating in a live event on lifestyle in Mumbai. I come from a small town in Jaipur and by profession I am a fashion designer. I was amongst the five best fashion designer been chosen for creativity in lifestyle for common man. I would like to share my experience here for you. I have categorized the lifestyle concept into four phases, 1. Health Consciousness (Keeping fit) 2. Clothing with the style trends (Dressing Sense) 3. Updating your body language (Modernizing) 4. Socializing with the crowd. (Social Networking)
  2. I am sure following these four steps will lead you to a complete personality. I will now explain how? Let's get started with the first step. Health Consciousness (Keeping fit) 1. 2. 3. 4. Sleep Earlier: Go to bed earlier. You might be used to watching TV or surfing the net in the night, I recommend you to skip this habit out of your daily life, sooner or later you will start waking up early in the morning. Get out of your bed as early as possible: Getting out of your bed an hour early to your daily routine schedule, can give you more time to exercise or take some yoga or meditation into practice. Keeping you to a healthy diet: By healthy diet doesn't mean costlier and tinned dietary foods. You can keep healthy by absorbing common available foods. You don't have to visit a gym trainer or a nutritionist to guide you through a healthy diet. The best person to do this is your mother. Yes she knows you better anyone else. You can add some natural things like Fruits, vegetables, pulses, dry fruits, juices and lots of water. Try to avoid fast foods, oily foods, coffee, tea and beverages. Avoid smoking and boozing habits as these habits kills you day by day. Taking a nice shower: We all take shower before we move out to our school, college, work place, participating in events, sports etc. I recommend that when you take shower make sure that it is not too hot, for it will break your hair and hurt your skin. Anything from lukewarm to cold (if you like it that way) is fine. Warm water opens up your pores while cold water closes them, so you may want to keep that in mind. Namaste! {To Yoga instructor} Ritu: Instructor: Namaste! Guru Ji I have learnt some Asanas that you had taught us in the class. I tried them yesterday and Ritu: I think I was able to do them well. Instructor: That's so nice of you. I shall be teaching you a couple more in today's class. I am sure you also followed the 4 tips to keep yourself healthy. As these are mandatory steps to be followed. Yes Guru Ji I am following these steps and am trying to make it a habit. Ritu: Instructor: Good. Guru Ji could you please let me know if you have some specific dietary list that one should Ritu: follow. Because most of us are from working or business class and we are used to tinned and ready to use products. Instructor: Yes I have a planned diet list which you all can use. If you happen to have any confusion you can ask me. Please leave your e-mail ID's and I will send them to you.
  3. Thank you so much Guru Ji. Ritu: Instructor: You are welcome. Student 1: Hi! Did you watch the latest program on Swami Ramah's "way to eternal Moksha"? Student 2: No I didn't as I was busy with my preparations. What was is it all about? Student 1: Oh! I am sorry. You missed a very good telecast. It was all about living a life towards betterment of the society Student 2: Really. I think I missed something good. Student 2: Can you give me a glimpse of it? Student 1: Yes sure. The first part he mentioned was that you should be kind. You should be kind towards your fellow being and especially animals. Student 2: Okay. That's a good advice. I think I will start following. Student 1: Secondly he mentioned that you should meditate. Whenever you fee stressed you should find place for meditation. Student 2: Yes this is a good tip. Everyone should follow this on. Student 1: Then he said that you should not dispraise any other human being. This generates a negative vibes in your thoughts. Student 2: Right. A good thought. I get it. Student 1: It was a good program to watch. Student 2: Anyways I will check for the repeat telecast if they have any. Student 1: Yes you can. Student 2: Thanks for sharing the details. It was really informative. Student 1: Any time. Clothing with the style trends (Dressing Sense) 1. Dressing Sensibly: Figure out the type of clothing that you like, so that you can be stylish and know that the clothes you're wearing help express your personality well. Experiment to find out what clothes flatter your figure and express your unique personality.
  4. 2. 3. 4. 5. Learn about style: Look at regular people around you and examine what they're wearing. Go window-shopping. This will give you an idea of what's in style right now, and will give you a chance to see what items you like and dislike. Ditch the brand name: The most important rule of having style is not to be defined by labels. You can get a cool look even by going through some local clothing shops but you just need to check what suits you the best. You can judge on the color and its combinations by taking a trial at the clothing shop. Keeping yourself up to date by watching fashion magazines or Google over the internet can also help you choose best outfit clothes. Know when clothes fit you: Not all of us can have the size O body of a model, and that's okay. You don't need that to have style. To have style, you need to know how to tell when clothes fit you, and what kind of clothes and styles you can use to flatter your body type. Accessorize: It's a thing that can make an okay outfit a great outfit, and really improve your sense of style. Know how much jewelry is too much, if you should wear the hat or not, and if you should go for a bold or simple accessory. You can check the tie combination, a sunglass, a waist belt, pair of shoes etc. Hi! Firdausi. How are you doing today. Ritu: Firdausi: Hey Ritu Long time, where have you been? Well I was in the states. I had a launch of my event campaigning. Ritu: Firdausi: Oh that's too good to hear. You are looking too stunning and trendy. What's up? How's this change happened. Ritu: Firdausi: Nothing much dear. Just followed some tips on the latest fashion trends for today's women. I just followed the guidelines. Wow! That's amazing. What was the name did you say the book is? Ritu: Firdausi: It is a fashion magazine and it comes twice a month on the shelf. It's called "Learn style with me". Great Firdausi. Good to see you going so modern. Ritu: Firdausi: Well thanks Ritu. By the way where have you been for the event campaign? • • I was in New Jersey. It was a 15 days program. The good part is that it went well and we got a Rltu. huge response. Firdausi: That's so nice. Do you have any meeting or appointment for the second half today? Ritu:
  5. Firdausi: Not anything very important. Why, what happened? Well I was planning for a day out this evening. I and Arthi had a plan for a hang out today. Ritu: Firdausi: Arthi, oh my god is she still in the same city. yes she is on a month's holiday from her office. So what say? Ritu: Firdausi: Yes of course, I am in. Where to gather ad what time? • Let's meet at 6.00 PM at the same coffee shop at Saket. Ritu: Firdausi: Sure I would love to. Let's meet at six then. Catch you later. Ritu: Sure. Take care. Firdausi: Bye Student 1: You know today I went to a fashion show with my elder sister. She had two passes from the company she works for. Student 2: Oh that's so great. I am sure you must have had a good time? Must have seen good models? Student 1: Yes really. When we entered the auditorium, I could smell the fragrance. It smelled like a fragrance of Chandan {Sandalwood}. The podium was designed beautifully. There were background flash lights on the podium. Music was played with a very low voice giving it a complete touch up of a great event that's going to happen. Student 2: Wow. It is really driving crazy. Student 1: The beginning was with a small introduction on the event. The anchor was a female. She looked very stunning and she was moving so confidently over the stage. Student 2: Must be some old time model. Student 1: May be. The opening was with a flute recital and table duet with an Indian classical dance. Student 1: The fashion parade started just after this duet and dance. I saw stunning and amazing fashion models, women and men. They were wearing the latest dresses attired with the latest fashion fusion. Student 2: Did you take any video or shots of them? Student 1: Un-fortunately, no cameras and cell phones were allowed inside.
  6. Student 2: Oh. That's so bad of them. Student 1: There were some three fashion and style icons who presented their out fits. At the end of the show there was an announcement for audience to book their choices of dresses at the counter. We then moved out of the auditorium and headed back home. Student 2: Wow. I am sure you must have had real fun. Student 1: Yes I did. It was awesome. Updating vour body language (Modernizing) 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Crossing your arms: This gesture makes you look defensive, especially when you're answering questions. "Try to keep your arms at your sides," Leaning forward: It can make you appear aggressive. "Aim for a neutral posture," Breaking eye contact too soon: It can make you seem untrustworthy or overly nervous. "Hold eye contact a hair longer, especially during a handshake," Stepping back when you're asking for a decision: This conveys fear or uncertainty. "Stand your ground, or even take a slight step forward with conviction," Nodding too much: Even if you agree with what's being said, nod once and then try to remain still" Ritu: Hi Sapna! How are you. Sapna: Hi Ritu I am fine. How about you? I am fine too. Ritu: Sapna: So what's up? You know I just went through an article on the do's and don'ts on maintaining your body Ritu: language. Sapna: I am sure you are talking about ABC networks new release. Am I right. Exactly! So you have already seen this video. Ritu: Sapna: Yes I saw it last week. It really is a helpful stuff. I started trying this and it makes me more confident when I speak with someone at the office. It really works. Okay. I will try that for me as well. Ritu:
  7. Sapna: Sure. How's everything over there? Rest all is fine. Ritu: Sapna: Okay. Talk to you later in the evening. All right. Take care. Ritu: Student 1: Do you know that we have a seminar tomorrow at the college auditorium. Student 1: Yes I do. Is there something special about it? Student 1: Yes of course. Did you not go though the program details? There is a visit by one of the best public speaker of our country. He will give us tips on how we can face the interview successfully. Student 1: Really. I think I missed the details. I will be there at the seminar for sure. Student 1: you know what we can be confident when we come to face the companies who shall be participating in campus round ups. Student 1: Yes I think so. Student 1: Yes it is. Because we shall be facing the recruiters of the top notch companies and guess what knowing on what they can ask would surely help us to make up to the top level. Student 1: yes you are right. I am excited to attend the seminar now. Student 1: Me too. Student 1: So let's meet at the seminar tomorrow. Student 1: Sure. Remember that the seminar is at 11.00 AM Student 1: okay. Thanks. Socializing with the crowd (Social Networking) 1. 2. Socialization: Socialization is the action of sharing tacit knowledge with other individuals by means of observation, imitation and practice during collective work (for example, celebrating a meeting). Have good appearance: Appearance really is a basis step that is mandatory. Looking presentable will attract more people to you and also give you a booster of confidence. When you know you look good, it reflects onto other people.
  8. 3. 4. 5. 6. Strike up conversation: Starting a conversation is normally not very comfortable. In everyday life we have conversations that first start with something and then end in a totally different thing. For example you see a girl with a brooch on and you really notice this piece. A good icebreaker would be to go up and say, "Hey... that's a beautiful brooch! I noticed it when I first walked in and have been meaning to compliment on it." finding your ins and outs of conversing: If you are personally trying to start a conversation here are some ideas or "ice breakers" you can use: Complimenting on a specific accessory Complimenting the food at the party Asking where he/she knows the hostess Ask (fake) directions to where the cocktails are if the person you are trying to start a conversation with has one. Develop a friendly tone of voice: Tone of voice is important when trying to socialize comfortably. You don't want to sound nervous or too energized where people get the impression of anxiety from you. Being calm and relaxed attracts more people to you. Some Important tips: Don't worry if someone shuts you out. Not everyone is nice. Let them talk about themselves. People always love talking about themselves. Remember A.R.T- Appearance, Relaxation, and Tone. Bring a friend! Friend's helps things transition a little more easily and also boosts your confidence a bit more. Pick a person out you think you would be most confident to start a conversation with. This will make it a bit easier on you if you don't feel so intimidated. Be careful not to be awkward in conversation by first talking about a brooch and then where they like to travel. You need to slowly transition from one subject to another. Hey guys! How are you all. Ritu: Arthi: I am fine dear and how about you? Firdausi: I am fine too guys. Sapna: Me too.
  9. Do you guy know that I bought a CD by Rohit Ramaya on how to get yourself socialized. It has Ritu: good tips on the ways that you can extend your network without getting into a loop. I loved the article and blogs that he had over the CD. Firdausi: Really. Why don't you share them with us. You can download and send them to us. Arthi: Yes exactly. You should have passed on to us as well. We are not that bad at socializing ourselves but still new things are always welcome. Sapna: I am sure Ritu knows how to send the copies across. Firdausi: I think she knows. Do you Ritu? Arthi: No problem. I will educate her if she doesn't know it. Sure Arthi you can let me know as I am not that smart at computers. Ritu: Sapna: So guys what's next now. Sapna: Shall we have a party tonight at my place. Arthi: you will have to excuse me this time guys. I got to pick my Mom from the airport today. She is arriving from Bangalore. Firdausi: No problem Arthi. You can carry on. Rest of us can enjoy. Sapna: Sure. We don't meet often. Student 1: Hey listen today I got an invite message from a stranger guy. Student 1: I think you shouldn't accept that. You never know who the guy is. Student 1: Yes I too think the same way. I will ignore and decline his invite. Student 1: You know I read somewhere that one should be very careful with these networking websites. Things are very weird over these sites. Student 1: I know that. I watch them over the TV too. It is very shocking to see that the worst things happen to the girls and women only. So getting into a network some stranger is always risky. Student 1: I got CD by Rohit Ramaya on how to get you socialized. I will forward that CD to you in the evening. It has good tips in it. Student 1: Sure. I think I will have a look at it. Student 1: you know that I had a word with one of my friend who is a neighbor. She had a very bad experience with these social networking sites. She said she made a new friend last week over her
  10. network. This guy used to chat with her for long hours. She said he introduced himself as a son of an established business house. Last Sunday she went out for a hang out with this guy. She said that this guy robbed her with all her jewelry and I-phone that she had. She had to report this event to the police ultimately. Student 1: Oh my god. This is very serious. Student 1: Ye it is. I am scared even chatting with my know fellows now. You never know about someone's mind set. Student 1: You are right buddy. I think I should take good precautions from now onwards. Student 1: Anyways how's rest of your life? Student 1: It is fine otherwise. Student 1: Okay. Talk you later I got a class now. Student 1: All right. Thanks for your advice. Do send me the CD in the evening. Student : Sure I will. Bye now. Student: Bye I am confident that going through these tips and facts you can also develop the same confidence that I have in me. Maintaining a lifestyle in today's fast moving life is very important. Everybody wants to get attention and this is possible if you keep yourselves looking good and looking in shape. Further I will now update you some more easy ways where you can have a balanced life style. I have categorized them into Physical, Mental, Spiritual, Social/Emotional and Material aspects. 1. 2. 3. 4. Get sufficient exercise. Regular exercise like push-ups, sit-ups, crunches, jogging or walking are good and can be done naturally. One can even get to yoga or do some gym. Get sufficient rest. About eight hours of sleep helps the body repair itself. You may personally need more or less, as sleep requirements vary between people. Eat healthier. Look online and find the food pyramid, then try balancing your caloric intake with your exercise. Find time to relax. Just lie down and think about what you did before you started relaxing. Think positive thoughts or take up a relaxing hobby like sitting or sleeping.
  11. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Pick a hobby that you enjoy. Hobbies can counter daily stress. Unless the hobby is stressful, like base-jumping or self-mutilation. You could try collecting model trains or postage stamps. Plan out your day, and set goals. But don't stress out if you don't accomplish everything just the way you planned. Remain flexible and try different approaches to your goals. Write but keep it positive. No negative thoughts. If you have negative thoughts, do not write them down. Find someone you can vent negative thoughts to -- pretending to be happy all the time will do no good for you in the long run. Find out and develop your talents. Go out and do activities to find what you like and then pursue the one or two that strike your fancy. If you do three of them that will be too stressful. Keep a diary or journal. This would be a good place to write things. But remember, no negative thoughts. 10. Read. Try classics such as Anita Desai, Arundhati Roy, Amrita Pritam, Bhavna Chauhan, or Amit chaudhary. If you are not fond of those, try the newspaper, a fantasy novel, bibliography, or mystery. There's something for everyone- check out your local library to test the waters. 11. Try to set goals that are reasonable to achieve. Unreasonable goals are harder and will probably just lead to disappointment. 12. Pray effectively or meditate and learn different types of asana. If you are religious, study the Bible, Qur'an, Gita, Ramayana, Guru Grant Sahib. 13. Communicate with nature. Go outside, hike, go camping, or have fishing trip. You may find yourself doing most of the talking. 14. Do good deeds for other people, Cooperate with other people that you meet, listen to other people what they want to say? 15. There is difference between just hearing the words and actually paying attention and listening to them, Synergize mutually advantageous compatibility of elements, resources or efforts. 16. Get a good education. To get a good self-supporting job, master the skills necessary for your advancement. That way you will not be dependent upon anyone else. 17. Money is not that important. Happiness is the most important thing. Remember people on Forbes 100 are no happier than average people.
  12. Revise {Revision of what we did on A/V session} I am sure these important steps will help you lead a healthy and stylish life without spending exorbitantly. Style does not mean imitating any culture it is all about presenting yourself as a good human being who is always acceptable. Let me put down some vital points out of what we have seen over the Audio/video session. We saw that lifestyle can be divided into four main forms and they are, 1. Health Consciousness (Keeping fit) 2. Clothing with the style trends (Dressing Sense) 3. Updating your body language (Modernizing) 4. Socializing with the crowd. (Social Networking) Getting into the bed earlier and getting out of the bed earlier keeps you fit and fine always. We learned that regular exercise, meditation, healthy food, sensible dressing, a perfect body language and best ways to socialize with people around always pays of your lifestyle. Get sufficient exercise, Get sufficient rest, Eat healthier, Find time to relax, Pick a hobby that you enjoy, Plan out your day, Write but keep it positive, Make reading a habit, Communicate with nature, Do good deeds and Get a good education are also some good points that can help create a good lifestyle. Live in the present. Never live in the past or future; just do what you want right in that moment. Mind your own business, and keep your mind off other people's daily lives. Obsessions may be an indication you are not living a balanced live since you are dependent on that thing to be happy. If you live a balanced life you will find joy in almost everything you do. Think positively without any no's or can not's, instead of, "l will not fail," think, "l will succeed." It's better. I am sure these points and tips were the main highlights of the Audio and Video Slides. Refreshing them again should have given you a good help to go through the question and answer round.
