  1. PERIODIC TABLE 1. Elements in periodic table are arranged in increasing order of atomic numbers. 2. There are 18 columns called as groups and 7 rows called as periods. 3. The arrangement of elements in periodic table makes it easy for us to study their properties. Groups: 1. The elements in same group have similar properties. 2. Atomic radius increases from top to bottom in a group. 3. Ionisation energy and electronegativity decreases in a group from top to bottom. Periods: 1. First period is the shortest with only two elements. 2. Seventh period is incomplete. 3. Atomic radius decreases from left to right in a period. 4. Ionisation energy and electronegativity increases from left to right in a period. 5. Elements on left side of period are metals and on right side are non metals. Blocks: l. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. There are four blocks in a periodic table. They are s, p, d and f. The s block elements have 2 groups. The p block elements have groups from 13 to 18. The d block consists of groups from 3 to 12. They are also called as transition elements. The f block consists of two periods below the periodic table. They are also called as inner transition elements.
