  1. Preamble of Indian constitution Democratic: There are two types of democracy: i) Direct democracy: people exercise powers directly a. Example: Switzerland- Referendum, Initiative, Recall and plebiscite Indirect democracy: there the representatives of the nation exercise supreme powers and makes laws and run government. i. This type of democracy is also known as representative democracy ii. There are two types in indirect democracy 1. Parliamentary democracy 2. Presidential democracy India has adopted representative parliamentary democracy Social democracy: way of life that recognises liberty, equality and fraternity. They cannot be divorced from each other. Divorce of trinity from each other will be to defeat the purpose of democracy. • Democratic republic can be classified into two types o Republic o Monarchy Justice: Justice embraces three distinct form o Social o Economic o Political All of the forms of justice are embraces through fundamental rights and directive principles of state policies. Combination of social and economic justice is collectively called distributive justice. Liberty: It enables to give freedom to an individual. At the same time it promotes the growth of all its citizen though fundamental rights. If violated, they are enforceable in courts. Liberty means not freedom to do whatever they wish to. Liberties granted to its citizen is not absolute but qualified. Equality: • Absence of special privilege to any group of people or individuals. • Adequate opportunity to all without discrimination. Equality embraces three provisions- civic, political and economic
