We belong to social group because we are just born to it. No one chooses his social group ' Some people believe in many religions • Some are atheists (atheism) Formation of social groups because of social choice- what we practise as profession Culture we fallow The choice we take- games, profession etc. And many more All the social differences will not lead to social division. Social difference divide people into groups. But group formed will have many similarities and dissimilarities. (All Brahmins group- here the group has black and white people)
  2. All the communities formed will have different people (rich. Poor, black, white) Therefore we all are divided into many groups (different context) under different identity. For example on picture may mean different to different people. Overlapping the social difference and cross cutting of the differences are easy to accommodate Influx of people from other countries for the job or economic opportunity has also increased the different communities in almost all the countries. There could be conflict, violence and lead to disintegration of the nation. Northern Ireland: 53%- protestants Christians- 44%- roman catholic Christians- Finally there was peace treaty. In Yugoslavia: Unionists parties who want to remain with UK Nationalist party demanding northern Ireland to merge with Republic of Ireland (predominantly a catholic country) Political competition along the religious ethnics resulted in disintegration of the nation. This led to conclude that there should be no social divisions. If there exist social division, they must never be expressed in politics. There is some or the other kind of social division in all the countries around. They disadvantaged communities or minorities present in the nation will reflect the politics of the country. Political parties talk about their divisions and make policies to redress their grievance.
  3. In many countries, a community prefers to vote a particular political party. But this doesn't disintegrate the nation. Three determinates- for the unity and social division People should perceive their identity as Indians Depends on how the political parties raise the demands for any community. o Within the constitutional framework it is easy to satisfy the demands How the government reacts to the demands of the different community o If there are reasonable share in the demands of the communities, there will be less threat to the nation. Expression of social division and assertion is healthy and is no danger to the nation. This allows various social disadvantaged groups to express their grievance The people who feel that there are marginalized, deprived and grieved will fight for the cause in democratic way and secure their freedom. Some social differences leads to social inequalities and leads to the defiance and og state power and take a path of violence. Overlapping differences create possibilities of deep social divisions and tensions.
