International Finance- Basics -Key Terms: Cross Broder Transactions,Swap Points, Type of Rates. -Quotations & Its types Cross Border Transactions A transaction which involves exchange of money or finance at International level, that is, the one which is carried out between persons or parties residing in different coun tires thereby involving a transaction to be executed in foreign currency Please note- A currency which is domestic currency for the person who resides in that particular country is a foreign currency for the other person who resides in a country other than such country. Eg- INR (Currency of India) is domestic for person residing in India. However, the same is a foreign currency for a person who resides in country other than India, say for example, US or China. Quotation- This is the method of describing the rate of domeatic currency for a given foreign currency for a particular period in order to enter into foreign exchange transaction. Eg -say on 1 January 2016 USD/INR was Rs 65.50-65.70 (assumed). In any given quotation , the LHS rate is Bid rate and that of RHS is Ask Rate. In the above example, INR 65.50 per USD is Bid rate and INR 65.70 is Ask Rate Bid Rate : is a rate at which Banks, Financial Institutions and Authorised Dealers of Foreign exchange buy the currency Ask Rate : is a rate at which Banks, Financial Institutions and Authorised Dealers of Foreign exchange offer the currency.
  2. Swap Points- are the points by which the given quotation increases or decreases. For eg- Quitation for USD/INR - 45.00/45.10 Swap points 10-12 The given quotation will be revised (increased/decreased) as per the given swap points.
