Carbohydrates are classifed into two categories based on their functional group-
1. aldoses- These contain aldehyde group. Ex.- glucose, galactose, arabinose ec.
2. Ketoses - These contain Ketone group. Ex.- Fructose, Erythruluse etc.
Based on their number , they are classified as-
1. monosacharides- These contain only single unit of carbohydrate molecules. Ex. Glucose, Fructose ec...
2. oligosaharides - These contain 2-10 units of carbohydrate molecules attached with each other by O- glycosidic linkage. Ex.- sucrose, etc.
3.Polysacharides - These contain more than 10 molecules of carbohydrates units attached with each other by O- glycosidic linkage. Ex. Cellulose, Starch.
