My philosophy is based on the idea that learning happens in an environment of mutual respect in which the student is encouraged to think and make new connections for themselves. My experience has been that one to one personal tuition has a unique value to students because of the ability to resolve the studentâs personal barriers to learn in a way that lays the foundation for a deep and lasting understanding of the subject.

Tutoring Approach

I aim to provide a solid grounding in the subject while paying close attention to the needs of the individual. An initial meeting establishes the studentâs needs and the direction tuition should take, usually with a parent present. Then we begin work on a programme of study which focuses on filling gaps in knowledge and addressing any areas of weakness. Often, this involves looking in detail at sentence construction and grammar or the techniques of literary analysis â the kinds of things that tend not to happen in a busy classroom. I set regular homework and writing assignments â the quantity varying with how much time the student has â and give feedback the following session.
