Newton's Second Law says every body continues to be in its state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless or until an externally applied force changes its state. This gives the definition of Force. So Force is something which when applied to a body changes the state of rest of the body or its uniform motion in a straight line. 

Force, P is a vector quantity. It has magnitude and direction. The magnitude is expressed as "mf" where m is mass and f the acceleration.  Or P = mf. The unit of measurment of Force is usually Newton.

That statement may have been true ages ago when breakdown maintenance was the norm and machines were taken for maintenance only when they broke down. Organizations soon realized that breakdown maintenance led to much higher maintenance cost and much longer machine down time, because often the spare parts were not readily available to replace the broken (literally) item.

Waiting for a machine to break down to take it for maintenance is now an outdated concept. So it is ludicrous to make a statement as mentioned.

If we do so, engine won't start because in diesel engine compression ignition is used as diesel has low ignition temperature. But in gasoline engine we use spark ignition because petrol has high ignition temperature. As this is the reason engine won't start.
