In order to teach successfully it is most important for me to gain my tutees and confidence and to give them self-confidence. During my first session I establish their method of learning and their level of knowledge and build on this by praising achievement. Initially, I encourage the use of simple rules and then we go on to develop deeper thought. My focus throughtout is 'the syllabus' and the fact that all the exam questions come from it - this fact gives tutees both structure and sets goals to their learning. Together we work on exam technique, using many past papers, from not only their exam board, but from all boards, as this gives the tutees a wider exposure to possible questions.
