I prefer to follow a 2 step approach to tutoring.

First would be to always review old material in each session. This combination helps students to build their confidence.

Second would be to help students be ahead of their class. In other words, I teach the course material that the student has not yet been taught by the teacher. This helps them to conquer their fear and helps them to have a positive experience in class. This will be done on a case to case basis.
