There is no such formula, but here are some tips-

1) first of all read the complete passage to get the gist,

2) try reading the sentences with different options provided to you and see which one makes more sense,

3) practise two close test problem daily.  

Now there can be two cases in close test -

Case 1 - here you have to select the word which is meaningful , logical.

consider the following example-

Now in this passage you have to select the word that is logically correct I.e you need to know the meaning of each option to know which word will be correct. For the First blank “requirement” is the correct answer as the need or requirement of energy in India is met by the sources mentioned,. The option lessen is completely out of the question here, sources would have been right if the sentence was framed like this - the sources of energy in India are conventional and non conventional. Similarly for the second blank the answer is important. 

Case 2 - here you have to select the grammatically correct option.

Consider the following example

Here are is the correct answer as ‘ there are sources not source of energy’
