I agree with the previous respondents but I have a relatively controversial take compared to others on this question. Hear me out before forming an opinion.

An outline is merely a prompt given to help you write a story. It does NOT indicate that there is only one correct approach to writing it.

If 10 people are given an outline, they will create 10 different and unique stories, each developing from the same roots but branching out in individual ways. You may very well stick to the bare essentials when writing a story from an outline, but do NOT limit your creative spark to conventional form. You may surprise yourself at what you can truly produce if you break free of the need to be "correct" and "perfect".

YOU are unique; let your story be unique as well.

That said, here are some steps I hope you find useful when writing from an outline.

• Read the question and/or outline thoroughly and note the word limit.
• Remove your gaze from the outline and begin simulating ideas. Feel free to think up a storm if needed.
• Make short notes of the things that come to mind, using words or phrases (E.g., storm, dark clouds, clothes, trees, etc.)
• Determine how you want your story to begin. It can begin from the beginning, the middle or the end. The sequence doesn't matter.
• Begin writing. Don't overthink anything. Things will fall into place as you write.
• Use a descriptive tone. Remember that you can use simple words to paint a grand picture.
• Choose an ending. It can be open-ended or have a definite close. Both are appealing.
• Once you are done, check for any errors in grammar and spelling. Proofread.
• Don't forget to congratulate yourself on a job well done. Self-praise (if done in moderation) is a good thing.
• If you are in an examination, move on to the next question. Don't dally. :p
