UPSC NDA & NA (II) 2018 Notification Out- Everything You Need to Know

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has published notification about National Defence Academy (NDA) and Naval Academy (NA) exam II 2018 to be connected. Prior to your exam preparation, it is important that you must understand and have all the knowledge of the exam pattern and the eligibility criteria.

Exam pattern for NDA & NA exam will provide aid to the students to know the parameters of the exam such as, the time duration for the exam, which sections will be asked in the exam, number of questions that will be asked from each section and the marks distribution for it.

The total number of vacancies for NDA & NA 2018 is 383. The online application of NDA (II) has already started.

NDA 2018 Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Only male candidates are eligible to apply.
  2. Only candidates who are unmarried can apply for NDA exam 2018.
  3. The candidates must be a citizen of India, or
  4. A subject of Nepal, or
  5. A subject of Bhutan, or
  6. A Tibetan refugee who came to India and settled in India before 01 January 1962.
  7. A migrant of Indian origin from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Burma, and East- African Countries of Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zaire and Vietnam and The United Republic of Tanzania and who is a permanent resident of India.

Note:

  • The applicant who falls under the categories 4,5,6 and 7, must have certificates of the eligibility that is been issued by Government of India.
  • Applicants who are Gorkha and are subject of Nepal do not need to show this certificate.

NDA 2018 Age Limit:

  • To apply for NDA II 2018 the age range is from 2nd January 2000 and 1st January 2003, which is between 18 to 22 years of age.
  • The date which is mentioned in your matriculation certificate will be taken into consideration. Apart from that no other certificate or affidavit will not be accepted.

Education Qualification Required:

(A) For Army Wing:

Candidates who have appeared/ appearing or completed 12th (10+2) or equivalent examination, from central or state board/ university for this exam.

(B) For Air Force and Naval wings:

Candidates who have appeared/ appearing or completed 12th (10+2) or equivalent examination, from central or state board/ university with Mathematics and physics as the compulsory subjects, can apply for NDA exam.

Physical Standards for NDA 2018:

Every candidate who is applying has to go for medical examination before submitting their application form. The below-given list consists of the physical standards for the exam.

  • The applicant must have good physical and mental health and should be free from diseases and disabilities.
  • The chest should not be less than 81cm after full expansion. The expansion of chest after full inspiration should be more than 5cm. X-ray of the chest will be taken to examine any kind of disease.
  • Bones/Joints should not be impaired of any function. These should be developed in a proper manner.
  • The candidates are advised to rectify minor defects/ailments. Permanent body tattoos are only allowed from the wrist to the inside of the elbow and on the hand’s backside. Tattoos on any other body part are not acceptable. Candidates belonging to tribes who have tattoos/ marks on the face/ body as part of their custom/ traditions will be allowed on a special case basis.
  • The candidate should not have any history of mental breakdown/ fits.
  • Un-operated Hernia will lead to disqualification. In case of operated Hernia, it should be operated before 1 year to the final medical examination.
  • Liver and spleen of the candidate should be of normal size.
  • There should not be any functional or organic disease of heart and blood vessels.
  • There should be no hydrocele, varicocele or piles or any kind of skin disease.
  • Any kind of disease of internal organs of the abdomen will lead to disqualification.
  • Examination of urine will also be done and any abnormality if found, will lead to disqualification.
  • The applicant should have a sufficient number of natural and sound teeth. There should be minimum of 14 dental points.
  • The hearing should be normal. Candidate should be able to hear a whisper with each ear at a distance of 610 cms. There should not be any disease of ear, nose, and throat.
  • Blood Pressure should be normal.
  • USG abdomen examination will be performed, and any congenital structural anomaly will lead to disqualification.
  • Candidate should not be of weak constitution, overweight/underweight.

Height and Weight Standards for NDA Exam:

The applicant must have a height of 157 cm (162.5cm for Air Force). For the candidates living in the North-East part of India and Gurkhas, the height can be 5cm less than the above-mentioned height. The minimum acceptable height can be reduced by 2 cm for the candidates belonging to Lakshadweep.

Vision Standards for NDA Exam:

(A) Vision Standards for Army:

  • Distance vision (corrected):

           Better Eye 6/6

           Worse Eye 6/9

           Myopia should not be more than -2.5D including astigmatism.

           Hypermetropia not more than +3.5D including astigmatism.

  • Candidate must have good binocular vision. Candidates should be able to recognize white, red and green colours correctly as shown by Martin’s Lantern at a distance of 1.5 meters.
  • Laser surgery for the correction of a refractive error is also not accepted for defence services.

(B) Vision Standards for Naval Services:

  • Uncorrected without glass: 6/6, 6/9
  • Corrected with eyeglass: 6/6, 6/6
  • Limits of Myopia: -0.75
  • Limits of Hypermetropia: +1.5

(C) Vision Standards for Air Force:

  • Candidates who wear spectacles regularly are not acceptable.
  • Minimum distant vision in one eye: 6/6
  • In another eye: 6/9 (correctable to 6/6 only for Hypermetropia).
  • Candidates who have gone through PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy/LASIK) may be considered t for Airforce services.
  • Physical Conditioning:

(i) Running 2.4 km in 15 minutes

(ii) Skipping

(iii) Pushups and sit-ups (Minimum 20 each)

(iv) Chin ups (Minimum 8)

(v) Rope climbing 3-4 metres.

3. Medical Test.

Note:

  • The NDA & NA examination will consist of 2 papers, namely Code 1 (Mathematics) & Code 2 (General Ability Test).
  • NDA & NA (II) 2018 will be an objective test. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), with four choices in each question, will be asked in the exam.
  • There will be negative marking for every wrong answer (For Mathematics section, it will be -0.83 marks per the wrong answer and for the General Ability Test, it will be -1.33 marks for every incorrect answer.)
  • The exam will be offline, i.e. it will be conducted in pen & paper mode. Students will have 2.5 hours to complete each exam. (i.e. 2.5 hours each for Mathematics & General Ability Test).
  • General Ability Test will comprise of the test of 2 parts, namely, Part A (English) and Part B (General Knowledge).
  • The General Knowledge section would comprise of questions from Physics, Chemistry, General Science, History, Geography and Current Affairs (mostly related to events of National and International Importance).
  • The NDA & NA exam will be bilingual, i.e. it will be available in two languages, namely, English & Hindi (except for the test of English).
  • Candidates who qualify the written test will have to face an SSB interview which will carry 900 marks, thereby bringing the grand total to 1800.
