The Education System in Canada

There are two types of Educational Institutions:

Duration of Study

DOCTORAL OR PhD

A minimum of 2-5 years of full-time study is required for the doctoral programs.

MASTERS

Masters degrees comprises of at least two years of full-time studies including a thesis, practicum or research paper.

PG DIPLOMA / GRADUATE CERTIFICATE

Generally, of 1-year duration and may be of two years in exceptional cases.

UNDERGRADUATE

A bachelor’s degree consists of four years of full-time study.

UG DIPLOMA (Post-Secondary Diploma)

A UG Diploma comprises of two or three years of full-time study.

Intakes Available in Canada

There are two main intakes, in January and September. There is a limited May intake as well.

Criteria for Bachelors & Diplomas

12 years of full time school education

▪ Diplomas require minimum 50-55% in Std. 12th and Bachelor’s Degree requires above 60%; however high ranked universities require 70% and above

 

Entry Criteria for Masters & PG Diplomas

Minimum 65% mandatory in Bachelors whereas most of the high ranked universities require

70% and above.

▪ 16 years of full-time education is essential for Masters in technical streams likes engineering,

pharmacy, computer science etc.

▪ 15 years of full-time education acceptable for MBA in some of the universities

 

PG Diploma

Cost to Study

The cost to Study in Canada may vary approximately from 8 to 15 lakhs per annum in Indian currency, based on the programs, inclusive of the tuition fee as well as the accommodation.

Sources of Finance

You can start the processing if your parents are Self-funded otherwise you can apply for educational loans from approved banks. The repayment of the loan commences up to one year after graduation or 6 months after securing a job whichever is earlier.
