Electric circuit needs electricity for operating it and that's why we connect cell with it. Cell generates the electricity via different-different chemical reactions, which is totally based on which materials are used to made of it, like Lithium iron cells,Solar cells and even Helium cells are available!! Now the question is why we need this kind of external energy for operating our circuit? Circuit connections are made of conducting materials and they contain free electrons, these free electrons are wandering in that material and when we give external energy via cell, the electrons gets that's energy and that's why they can flow in one direction in that material(circuit material).
